Dr. Melanie Magpantay-Garcia belongs to a family of doctors. It is like a long time family tradition being passed on from one generation to the next. As a child, while watching her late father, a surgeon, his patients, she was truly amazed at how a doctor can do wonders just with the aid of a stethoscope!
It is a calling to be an advocate for health and face this very rewarding responsibility. She chose the field of Pediatrics, inspired by her aunt and uncle now retired who both were trained in the United States and have been successful Pediatricians.
Dr. Garcia took her BS Biology Accelerated Program course at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. This is a program offered to students with high academic performance. She earned her medical degree at a young age of 23.
Months after her internship and acquiring licensure to practice in the Philippines, Dr. Garcia took and successfully passed the qualifying examinations to train in the United States. She did her pediatric residency training at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City and The Children’s Hospital at St. Joseph in Paterson, New Jersey. She then became the sole pediatrician at McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield, Maryland from 1997-2003. She later relocated to Baltimore and joined another pediatrician for four years and thereafter decided to start her own practice in May 2007. Dr. Garcia is also involved academically, teaching and supervising medical students at MedStar Georgetown University Medical School as an Adjunct Assistant Professor. Dr. Melanie M. Garcia was voted 2022 Top Pediatrician by the Baltimore Magazine.
Dr. Garcia is certified and recertified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics as well as a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
She is a proud mother of two beautiful children, Lanz and Margaux. Her husband, Larry Garcia who is a Healthcare IT Consultant by profession is the Practice Manager of Kiddie Health Pediatrics and Senior Advisor at General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT).
